On September 7, 2025, the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council officially issued the Notice of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council on Issuing the List of Degree Programs Revoked and Added by Institutions with Independent Degree Authorization Review Authority for 2024. With its profound academic accumulation and outstanding strengths in scientific research and teaching, Central South University has been officially approved to establish the Doctor of Professional Accounting (DPAcc) program.

This approval marks not only another major breakthrough in the discipline construction of Central South University, but also a high-level national recognition of the university’s comprehensive strength in accounting, laying a solid foundation for the high-quality development of the discipline in the future.

As one of the key and competitive disciplines of Central South University, accounting boasts a long history and remarkable achievements. Over the years, the accounting discipline at Central South University has been driven by scientific innovation and centered on talent development, achieving progress in both teaching and research: on the one hand, the academic team has actively undertaken national, provincial and ministerial research projects, focusing on cutting-edge fields such as innovation in resource and environmental accounting theory, financial governance in capital markets, and accounting transformation in the digital economy. Many achievements have been published in authoritative academic journals at home and abroad, providing important theoretical support for industrial development. On the other hand, by optimizing the curriculum system and strengthening practical teaching, the university has continuously improved the quality of talent training, cultivating a large number of accounting professionals with both theoretical competence and practical ability.

The approval of the Doctor of Professional Accounting program will further fill the gap in professional doctoral education in accounting at the university, improve the disciplinary layout featuring the coordinated development of academic degrees and professional degrees, and significantly enhance the discipline’s competitiveness and influence in accounting education worldwide.
